Vecta on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
Manufacturing Execution Systems are a critical link between the transaction-oriented business systems and real-time plant operations. They provide an enhanced "mid-level" message queuing, processing and data transformation hub between a range of Enterprise Level Systems and plant-level Process Automation Systems.
The systems,
potentially integrated with plant automation, include
Collaborative Manufacturing and Commerce, Customer
Relationship Management, Enterprise Resources Planning, Product
Data Management, Supply Chain Management, and
Transportation & Logistics. Adding complexity some
functionality may be implemented within the MES or as
separate, albeit integrated, elements. Integration of these systems involves extensive engineering to assure the necessary levels of performance, reliability, and security. More widespread use of open standards is allowing progress towards a more product-oriented approach that has the potential to reduce the complexity and risk involved in such integration projects. |
||||||||||
Successful deployment of MES helps optimise operations by reducing the latency and errors on information exchanged between management and plant and provides a platform for the introduction of other productivity enhancing software. However such projects can be complex and costly unless the requirements are carefully defined, software and platforms are chosen carefully, and projects closely managed.
Our Process Automation Experts Network is dedicated to exploring developments in process automation and enterprise integration. This involves projecting the evolution of enterprise and plant level functionality and identifying strategic business needs. It also requires identifying issues related to supplier and partner selection. |

Our extended network ensures we have the expertise to help you solve just about any business or technology problem. |
