These notes summarise a Tangolab workshop with Alex Krebs in Cambridge in January 2003.

As the laboratory name implies, the workshop was aimed at experimenting with a numer of techniques and exercise to extend participants' expertise and enjoyment.

We began with some exercises to improve step quality  
  Reach out sideways with the foot, maintaining balance and a vertical torso, keeping the foot on the floor as long as possible then gradually reaching out before extending just a little more before transferring weight to the new foot.

Reverse and repeat.

Reach out forwards with the foot, maintaining balance and a vertical torso, keeping the foot on the floor as long as possible then gradually lifting the heel to reach out before extending just a little more before transferring weight to the new foot.

Reverse to return to the original position and repeat.

Repeat using the other leg.

We continued with an exercise on shadow sacadas  
  step into f's or l's space with / without sacada

sweeping:

 
  sweep other person's foot

chnag weight to swept foot / step / sweep other person;s foot

repeat

sacada every 5th step

 
  only in parallel

sacada every 5th step

 
  only in cross system

switch system every 5th step

 
   

free movement cross > parallel parallel to X etc

 
  using extra or missing steps
