First Milonga in Buenos Aires

The flight may have been delayed and long but their excitement rose when they took off from Sao Paolo on the last leg into Buenos Aires.

That afternoon, after just a hurried snack, some of the group visited the El Arranque milonga at La Argentina. It was crowded and the floor was hard but they soon plucked up the courage to step out on the dance floor - this was real Tango; this was Buenos Aires!

They were surprised by the salsa cortinas between groups of tango pieces and the way couples stood around talking for several bars of each new piece but they soon adapted.

 
He invited his first local partner for a dance. He was hesitant so restricted himself to simple moves that worked well with the music. The ice was broken.
